QR Barcodes

These are the square barcodes often seen as links to Apps. They are far and away more powerful than that. For instance:

  • Link to my web site
  • Contact details
  • Contact us by sms
  • play a Youtube video
  • add an entry to the user's calendar
  • start an image gallery
  • ease installing an app from the App Store or Android Market
  • send a predefined sms
  • send a Tweet with your content
  • visit Google+/Facebook profile
  • call a phone number
  • show contact data as a vCard/meCard
  • show your branding on textiles (T-shirts, bags) and other articles like mugs
  • show your profile on recommendation services like Qype
  • use QR Codes in blogs (Wordpress etc)

Website design, promotion, programming and revenue making

Every so often one stumbles upon something really valuable. This site contains a wealth of information on many site development issues. I have not yet read them all but those that I have read have provided clear concise information in sufficient detail to be implemented. A very useful resource indeed. thesitewizard.com

Farbtastic: jQuery color picker plug-in

Had some fun with this. I am not yet fully comfortable with Javascript. However, the colour picker works well and provides an intuitive interface. I have produced a page to help mix colours together. The resulting colours can then be used to render this site. A simple method for experimenting with colour prior to making decisions about your own site. Beware, I have made changes to the code. You can find the original code and instructions at Acko.net.

jdMenu Hierarchical Menu Plugin for jQuery

The need to implement a collapsing horizontal menu using an unordered list with minimal additional markup brought me to the jdMenu site. The opening paragraph on the site states: The jdMenu plugin for jQuery provides a clean, simple and elegant solution for creating hierarchical drop down menus for websites to web applications. My experience with this menu supports this claim and the menus appearing in this site are based on the fine work of Jonathan Sharp.
